What to expect from Mobile World Congress 2016
According to the 2015 Ditrendia Mobile report, for the first time the number of mobile phones has exceeded the number of people in the world. In numbers, it means that there are more than 7.300.000 devices and every year this figure increases. But not everybody has just one mobile phone: more than half of the population has more than one.
Today, there are few children that do not have a mobile phone with internet connection. Yet these technologies did not exist when their parents were young. Entire social movements are being enabled through the disruptive use of digital technology. For instance, the daily average time that users spend on mobile is longer than the average time spent watching television. With 177 minutes in front of the mobile, one could say that it is a fact of life that smartphones have become a key part of our lives.
Mobile is everything
In this line, “Mobile is everything” will be the motto of this year’s Mobile World Congress. The upcoming event Mobile World Congress 2016, to be held at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona from 22 to 25 of February, brings together more than 2.100 companies from different sectors such as telephony, automotive and finance, which will showcase their innovations. Naturally, Blue Room Innovation will be present at the event, as well as at the MWC Brokerage Event organized by ACCIÓ.
Besides the usual program of conferences about the current and future of the mobile industry, the event will showcase the latest technological developments, growth strategies and next generation services. Moreover, there will be sessions addressing issues such as gaming, smart cities sustainability, wearables, mobile identity, financial services, 5G networks, big data, e-commerce or the Internet of Things.
This edition could be a great opportunity to determine the next standards about some upcoming technologies in the mobile sector and also learn more about new devices such as:
5G is just emerging but the entire industry has shown interest in it, since in 2020 5G is expected to be fully operative. For the better connection of individuals and companies in the future there should be a roadmap on its standardization.
Collaboration among telephone operators, network companies and manufacturers is needed in order to provide a real service, not just products such as the funny fridge which buys milk for you. In terms of security there is still a long way to go in that field.
Wearables or digital accessories such as smart watches, smart glasses, devices for personal health, etc. are opening a new huge market for the mobile industry, relatively unknown but with a huge potential market penetration.
This amazing thin, waterproof, transparent, strong and flexible metal seems to be able to replace existing technological elements and increase its potential to incredible limits.
The mobile industry is characterised by growth and opportunity, and as the industry changes, opportunities increase. Certainly, the Mobile World Congress trends will be driving the market in the upcoming months until the next Mobile World Congress.
