STARTS at Sónar+D 2016: asking questions to invoke creativity, getting answers through technology

Science, Technology and Arts met at Sónar +D through the STARTS initiative, which was presented by Blue Room Innovation last Friday 17th June at 10:30 am. The talk presented the STARTS Prize, which emphasize artistic works that influence the way we look at technology and promote collaboration between the private sector and the world of art and culture.

Invited by Blue Room Innovation, speakers presented success stories where information and communications technology has been applied. With a presentation of this European initiative by EC technical expert and CEO of Artshare Luis Miguel Girão, the CEO at Blue Room InnovationDenisa Gibovic, Stephen Dunne, Director of Starlab Neuroscience Research and Xavier Bové, Art director of the International Mapping Festival of Girona special emphasis on AI technologies and smart systems were present in their different presentations. The talk was chaired by Marc Torrent, R+D Manager at Blue Room Innovation. Speakers outlined the increasing interconnection between art and technology and they stressed the importance of asking questions from art and creativity in order to get answers through technology.

STARTS –Science, Technology and Arts– is a supporting initiative by the European Commission that encourages the collaboration between artists, scientists and technologists. The resulting synergies will change the way of thinking and creating in every field, artistic creation techniques and technological research methodologies.
