There is indeed a powerful thought experiment to be taken into account on how to implement the blockchain (or distributed ledger) technology into the heart of society. We imagine blockchain is used to underpin applications that address real-world problems for shepherding a better future [i]

In this new wave of digital transformation, aspects such as the circular economy, the collaborative economy, the society of abundance, the coopetition, and new ways of collaboration and decentralization, among others, are accelerating the emergence of these ecosystems.


Blockchain ecosystems

When we talk about blockchain ecosystems, these are the groups of actors interacting with one another within the world of blockchain and with the surrounding off-chain world. In your typical blockchain, actors include users, miners, developers, and more. The core interactions between these actors take place in the form of transactions, but these transactions are almost entirely limited to the blockchain itself.

A developed blockchain ecosystem, then, is one that allows this blockchain to communicate with other blockchains, their actors, and the off-chain world. This inter connectivity allows us to build systems that can selectively take advantage of the blockchain — in its trustworthiness, transparency, and decentralization — and leave off-chain systems to fulfill functions they already excel at.

Blockchains are proving extremely useful for tracking materials across all sorts of supply chains and creating transparent and immutable audit trails. Meanwhile, governments around the world are issuing legislation requiring retailers and plastics producers to show they are meeting minimum levels of recycling, requirements that are likely to intensify going forward.

Currently, only rigid plastics that go into things like bottles are mechanically recycled into lower-grade plastics, a process that can be repeated twice at the most. But a combination of clever industrial technologies is set to make plastics recycling more sophisticated over the next few years, returning the chemically altered raw materials back into the manufacturing process.



Blue Room Innovation as a reference in blockchain for circular economy

At BlueRoom Innovation we are pioneering the emergence, participation, and contribution of blockchain ecosystems, and we have collaboration with leading researchers and inventors on this disruptive technology with novel models and concepts, thus we are steps ahead of the market. We know blockchain. In the area of collective actions for recycling, circular economy, and rewarding schemes for donations and currencies for special collectives, we have moved from exploration and proofs of concept to the generation of these ecosystems based on blockchain.

This is exactly what is applied to the RECICLOS project, we currently work on. RECICLOS combines digital technologies to create a platform that allows not only to monitor the flow of domestic recycled materials from homes to treatment plants, recognizing and rewarding families who do this task correctly, transparently, efficiently and effectively using blockchain technology.

RECICLOS aims to develop a sense of community, a way of living, where recycling will be an engine of social change as well as a powerful community building and a central contribution to waste management starting with the waste fraction of bottles and tins. In addition, citizens will obtain more information on the life cycle of recycled materials and work will begin on the traceability of recycled waste from home to its new life cycle.
